Fair enough, but what does that actually mean?
After all, being human can mean many things – empathy, creativity, a shared irritation of automated call handling systems (JUST PUT ME THROUGH TO A HUMAN!)
But a lot of that is subjective, and tricky to translate into specific behaviours.
However, there is one aspect of ‘being human’ which is absolutely concrete and specific: working in a rhythm.
Although the circadian rhythm isn’t unique to humans, it is common to all humans. And it has profound biological effects on our ability to function every day.
After all, we evolved to:
- Pursue goals
- Learn from that pursuit
- Share ideas
- Rest and recover
And because we couldn’t do all of that at once (and it’s harder to find berries in the dark), these events were sequenced, along with our biology.
So if ‘leading with humanity’ means anything, it means working in a rhythm, in tune with our biology.
That’s why High Performance Routines are so relevant to this age of machines; working in a rhythm is the most tangible example of putting the ‘human first’.
Ignoring that rhythm, as so many of us do, is the preserve of machines.
