What 7,000 professionals taught me about energy, screens, and real recovery
In my research of nearly 7,000 working professionals, energy – or lack of it – is a constant theme.

So what does human creativity look like in the age of AI?
I am going to suggest something like this.

In fact, less than 𝟰% of people said they have felt satisfied with their energy levels in the last 3 months, which is an astonishing statistic.
So why is that?
Probably lots of reasons, but let me offer one other statistic.
Over 𝟵𝟯% of people tend to look at screens during their breaks – (some of the time/often/always).
Of course, there’s nothing wrong per se with looking at screens.
Until you consider that for many of us, looking at screens is what we do 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.
How can more of the same be proper recovery?
And then consider that much of what we look at on screens is not designed to calm, soothe or improve us. It is designed to provoke, outrage, consume us.
By definition, recovery needs to be different from what we do all day, every day.
𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆.
So start making your recovery more active through greater contrast:
– Inside all day? Get outside for a few minutes. 🌥️🌻🚶
– Staring at screens all day? Engage in nature. 🪵🌼🌳
– Drawn into the matrix? Unplug from other peoples’ input and find an activity where you create or build something yourself. 🎨🎭🎸
Of course, people are exhausted for lots of reasons.
But low powered recovery is a major culprit, which is easily fixed once we become aware of it.
